The region 1 copy is the definitive version. The picture is cleaner; it is uncut, has extra features, is in true anamorphic widescreen for 16:9 televisions and is even in 5.1 sound.
So was I 'thrilled' when the DVD arrived in my letterbox this morning?
NO.
Why? - Look below...

Quentin Tarantino has plastered his face and name all over the cover of the DVD, although the official reason he places his name on the promotional material for the movie is because he 'presents it'. Tarantino owns a company called Rolling Thunder which sole purpose is to bring foreign films to a new audience.
The packaging is ridiculous to the point of being hilarious self-promotion. Wong Kar-Wai's name isn't on the spine, but Tarantino's name is almost as large as the title. On the front, his name is much larger than the title, not to mention his face being as large as the actors on the cover, and Wong Kar-Wai's name is in 12pt font.
The goofiest part is the blurb on the back. "Another Must-See Cinema Favourite From Maverick Filmmaker and Pulp Fiction Creator Quentin Tarantino..." (which, aside from the blatant self-aggrandizing, makes it sound as if he made the film), then to top it off, a bizarre and inarticulate one-liner, from Tarantino himself, "I'm Happy to Love a Movie This Much!"
It is deceiving people into thinking they are getting a film that is somehow connected to Quentin Tarantino other than just presenting the piece of work. Yes it might help it be seen by more people but it's still self-promotion. This is a great movie and should be promoted or seen in it's own right.
